New to Santa Monica and even though I have ventured out. I was recently looking for a soccer meet up but then I stumbled on a few others, but all were "booked/sold out" - so why not create another for a more relaxed environment. Go to a bar without the formality of registering and just agree to meet at a bar, restaurant etc at a certain time. Maybe wear a certain color or just look for a certain spot in a bar!!! It may work!
